Are you an omnivore? If so, it’s possible that you’ve been in this situation. If you have a vegan friend or family member, you probably get annoyed with them often. All you ever hear about is how being vegan is good for you, animals matter too, it’s good for the environment, blah, blah, blah.
Yes, I said it. Vegans are annoying. If I said otherwise, I would be lying. But there’s a reason why we vegans say and do these annoying things. This blog post is addressed to the omnivores out there. Here are some reasons why some vegans behave the way they do.
We Were Once Like You
“If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be vegetarian.”
This quote by Paul McCartney is true. At some point in their lives, all vegans were just like you. They enjoyed bacon, steak, cheese, eggs, etc. just like non-vegans do. They all eventually opened their eyes and saw the horrors of the slaughterhouse. Then they opened closed doors to others who were blind to this hard truth. Some turned away, refusing to believe. Some opened their eyes. And that’s how we all became vegan.
That’s why I’m here. I’m here to open your eyes. Watch this video “Open Your Eyes” by Bite Size Vegan. Check out her YouTube channel.
I have opened your eyes. Now you have a choice to make. You can either turn away and continue your life as an omnivore. Or you can accept the truth and become vegan.
I’m not here to make meat-eaters feel bad. I’m writing this post to show you why vegans are the way they are. If you are an omnivore, please consider becoming vegetarian or vegan.
Everyone Is Annoying
Don’t blame us. Sure, vegans are annoying. But so are vegetarians. And pescatarians. And anti-pescatarians. And omnivores. The list goes on. Everyone is annoying in their own way.
When we are passionate about something, we talk about it. A lot. It gets to a point where it’s just really annoying. Everybody’s passionate about something, right? Think about what you are passionate about. Religion? Books? Art? Think about the times you’ve annoyed someone when you talked about it.
Plus, everyone gets annoyed too, including vegans. Non-vegans can get pretty annoying too. Vegans are made fun of for our lifestyle choices and decisions.
We Want the Best for Others
If you have a vegan friend or family member, you probably hear this all the time: “Being vegan is healthy.” You probably hear all the time about how going dairy-free, meat-free, egg-free, etc. is good for you.
Trust me, whoever tells you these things cares about your health. They just want the best for you. We’ll advise you to limit the amount of dairy and eggs you eat. We’ll tell you to eat your vegetables. In a way, we’re like your own annoying vegan mom.
We Will Not Be Silenced
To all the non-vegans who complain about or make fun of vegans, we will not be silenced. We were taught to stand up for what we think is right, and we will not be told to be silent. We have voices, and we will use them to speak our beliefs and the truth. We will not push people to become vegan, but we will continue to spread awareness.
Like I said before, everyone is passionate about something. If you are passionate about your art, I will not take away your drawing tools. If you are passionate about the books you read, I will not take your glasses away. If you are passionate about dancing, I will not take your shoes away. If you are passionate about spreading a message, I will not take your voice away.
You can call vegans “uncool” or “weird” or “annoying” but we will not be ashamed to do what we think is right. We will hold our ground until the very end.
